Evalution of 3D Printing & Social Changes

Social Changes

As more and more 3D printers begin to enter people's homes, the conventional relationship between home and workplace might get further eroded. Similarly, it has also been recommended that, as it becomes simpler for businesses to broadcast designs for new objects across the globe, so the requirement for high-speed freight services might also turn less.

As 3D printers became more reachable to consumers, online social platforms have started to support the community. This comprises websites which permit users to access information like how to create a 3D printer, and social forums which discuss how to enhance 3D print quality and talk about 3D printing news, and social media websites which are dedicated to share 3D models.

There are sites like Pinshape, MyMiniFactory and Thingiverse that was created at first to enable users to post 3D files for anyone to print, enabling for reduced transaction cost of sharing 3D files. Such websites have enabled for greater social interaction among users, building communities dedicated around 3Dprinting.

It is true that several problems and threats increase because of the large democratization of means of production, and particularly concerning physical ones. For instance building weapons could become simpler.

The consequences of 3D printing can also be non beneficial allowing the holders of great wealth to avoid paying income and estate taxes, and make it more hard to collect great fortunes without needing great social contributions comprising: reductions in protection for intellectual property, greater support of profit-sharing schemes which may benefit workers and provide them a stake in wealth accumulation, reinforcement of collective bargaining arrangements, developments in corporate governance, reinforcement of financial regulation to eradicate subsidies to financial activity, and many more.

Unlike previous digital technologies that drove firms to install underutilized pools of valuable labour around the world, the new technology is cost reduction via replacement of labour. For instance, as cost of 3D printing technology decreases, it is simple to imagine that production may become very local and customized. Labour will become a less significant asset for development and employment expansion, process-oriented manufacturing turning into less effective, and that re-localization will emerge in developed and developing countries.
